Why Work with Me

With 25 years of experience in four-year college advising—and a journey that began at community college myself—I provide personal, focused, and flexible support that helps students reach their goals faster, with less stress, and with much less expense.

While community colleges offer free advising, students often don’t receive the time, consistency, or individualized planning they need to navigate planning and the transfer process with confidence.

As an Academic Advisor in UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz, I worked with transfer students all the time who did not complete the IGETC, or are missing important classes for their major, and many other issues that could have been easily avoided.  That is part of the reason I started my consulting business.

Here are some of the benefits of working with me:

1. I work for you, not the college.
Let's be real: you are paying me to provide you with excellent service.  That is what I do.  College advisors get paid no matter what.

2. More Time and Personal Attention
College counselors are often overbooked and short on time.
Many students report rushed 20-minute meetings, long waits for appointments, or inconsistent advice depending on which counselor they see.

I offer:

  • More time per session

  • Flexible scheduling, including evenings and remote sessions

  • Ongoing support from someone who knows your story and goals inside and out

  • My clients aren’t just case numbers—they’re future graduates you’re personally invested in.

3. Consistency
Students often meet a different counselor every semester or have to re-explain their goals each time. With you, it’s one advisor, one plan, one relationship from start to finish.

Consistency builds trust—and trust leads to better decisions and better outcomes.

4. Proactive, Not Reactive
Most college counseling is reactive: "Tell me what classes you’re struggling with" or "Let’s fix a problem" after it’s happened.

I am proactive: Mapping out IGETC or GE pathways early; helping students align their classes with their major and transfer school requirements; preventing issues before they become setbacks;

helping students stay on track semester by semester.

5. Real-World Insight from 25 Years at Four-Year Colleges
I’ve worked directly in four-year institutions, and I understand:

  • A comprehensive approach to preparation to transfer

  • How transfer students are viewed by admissions teams

  • What academic departments want to see

  • How students can thrive once they arrive

  • I can prepare you for success beyond the transfer—not just helping you get there.
